ABOUT Darren
Originally trained in Australia, finishing my Bachelors of science in Physiotherapy at Curtin University in 1992, I then worked in Australia and the USA for 3 years coming to the realization I needed to specialize to offer better outcomes to my patients.

As such I went back to Curtin University in Perth Western Australia in 1996 and completed a post graduate Masters in Manipulative Physiotherapy (unde course director and legend Bob Elvey). This was a 1 year full time course focusing on the assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions with an emphasis on manual therapy (hands on techniques) including manipulation. More importantly the focus was on clinical reasoning and radically changed the way I think, such that as my career progressed I integrated different treatment approaches in a way I never would have if I had not been trained to realize medicine, like life, is not black and white.

I then began working in the USA and continued my education becoming certified in the McKenzie approach to musculoskeletal problems and also completing a fellowship in movement science at Washington University in St Louis utilizing the movement systems impairment approach pioneered by Dr Shirley Sahrman. I also completed more course work to earn a Doctorate in Physical therapy through Evidence in Motion. My Masters in Manual therapy allowed me to become a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Therapists.

In addition to these qualifications I  have also taken mutiple course in the Cognitive Functional Approach to back pain pioneered by Dr Peter O'Sullivan's group out of Australia.

I am currently senior faculty with Maitland Australian Physiotherapy seminars and teach nationally, and am a former adjunct professor of the University of Illinois Manual therapy Fellowship program that Dr Carol Courtney and Vincent Kabbaz PT, FAAOMPT, Grad Dip Manipulative therapy founded.

Integrating all these approaches, plus over 30 years of experience,  allows me to offer a variety of different treatments for different musculoskeletal and pain conditions, from sporting injuries to chronic pain patients.

I am available for concierge (if in my current area of work), PRN, contract and locum work through out the USA and Australia - if you have a need reach out me to see my availability.

To organize a consult with me so I can hear your story and begin your recovery, see the home page and send me a message.

For healthcare providers I also offer a variety of services from mentoring, lecturing and co-consults on patients where you may want a different opinion.
